Classic Penobscot River Trip

Spectacular scenery combined with Maine's most consistently challenging rapids means the best of all worlds on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. Begin the day with the 70-foot high walls of Ripogenus Gorge rising on either side as you careen through the chutes, drops, and boulder piles of the upper river. Enjoy a riverside barbecue for lunch, but be ready for the lower river with Nesowadnehunk Falls, a natural rock water slide with plenty of surfing opportunities (a Wilderness Expeditions exclusive). In between all the excitement you will enjoy fantastic views and wildlife sightings as the river winds its way around the base of Mount Katahdin, Maine's tallest mountain. Class 1-5 rapids--the trip is 14 miles long. Minimum age: 14 and 110 pounds. Please meet at the base at 7AM.

Penobscot Two Day Trip

This is the ultimate whitewater extravaganza! The first day consists of a day of rafting down the Seboomook Section of the Penobscot River in smaller 4-man rafts or inflatable kayaks (sport yaks). There is plenty of action and unlimited surfing opportunities. Class 1-4 rapids. On the second day, get psyched for a five hour decent down the Penobscot River in regular 8-man rafts. It's a ride you'll never forget. We recommend that participants be in good physical condition due to the trip's rigorous nature. 5 meals are included. Bring your own sleeping bag. We provide a wilderness site with outhouse. There are no photos/video available. Minimum age: 14 and 110 pounds. Please meet at the base at 8AM. Minimum 6 people to book trip.
